Stapleford Salvages A Point!

Round 10 of the World Supersport series saw the championship head to France and the circuit of Magny-cours. The circuit has been on the calendar for a few years now, however it was Luke's first visit to the French circuit and he had a lot to learn in a short period of time.

Stapleford jokingly said he felt prepared as he has done many laps on the playstation. In Fridays practice sessions he started of 2.6 seconds off the pace of the leaders but improved this time to just 1.5 in the second session. This put the team in a great mindset knowing that points should be on the table when the lights go out.

When the team woke up on Saturday morning they were greeted with some dark clouds and heavy rain. Luke has always been open to say that he prefers the dry conditions, so the team knew that they were in for a tough day. Qualifying was just getting underway when the rain had stopped but the track was still very wet and there was no chance of it drying by the end of the session. Stapleford could only manage 29th a result he wasn't happy with but felt he could make good progress in the race if conditions are in his favour.

Sunday morning, the sky's were blue and it was not going to change. In the morning warm up Luke was 10th fastest which boosted confidence going into the gruelling 19 lap race. Luke initially got a good jump off the line went the lights went out, but just a few corners in two riders collided just in front of him. Luke, not wanting to fall had to take avoiding action and this cost him a lot of time and dropped him well down the field. After crossing the line on the opening lap well outside the top thirty, Luke had his work cut out. He got his head down and started to pick people off and edge towards the points.

Having pushed hard through out the race his tires were fading and it was getting harder to make the passes. However by the time the checkered flag flew he was in 15th position to score a single point. All things considered it was a great ride and we are looking forward to Jerez in two weeks time.

Luke Stapleford: "It was a very difficult weekend with yet another new circuit to learn, Friday started well and we made continued progress throughout the day and I really started to get a feel for the circuit. Unfortunately, when we woke up Saturday we were faced with a wet track. With the amount of things we'd been told about how slippery it is in the wet it was always going to be difficult. I was really looking forward to the race and managed to get a good start until turn three where I was caught up in some riders crashing in front. Falling to almost last I was happy to get back up to P15 to score a point with lap times that would have put us around the top ten. We have now changed back to some settings we used last season and will hopefully be able to move forward with the bike to achieve a couple of strong results to end the season. As ever thanks to the whole team for there continued effort this weekend and we look forward to Jerez in a couple of weeks time."
