Oulton Park proved to be challenging for FPW Racing, with Jorel Boerboom being compromised for much of the weekend by an intermittent electrical problem and Storm Stacey having to retire with a cracked piston early in the only qualifying session. However, both riders re-grouped on race day to score points with Storm taking tenth place from 23rd on the grid and Jorel finishing close to his teammate in eleventh place. Jorel completed just nine laps on the opening day whilst Storm ended the second free practice session in third position. Final practice saw both riders lap consistently as they prepared for the afternoon single qualifying session.
With Jorel’s bike issues resolved, he was able to complete a full session and put himself in 15th position on the grid for Monday’s race. However, Storm’s qualifying ended abruptly after just three laps. The team worked hard late into the evening to prepare both bikes for the upcoming 14 lap race on Bank Holiday Monday.
The short morning warm-up was held in damp conditions with light rain. Jorel performed well in these conditions finishing in a confidence boosting third position with Storm rounding out the top ten in what was really a test to ensure everything was ok following an overnight engine change.
The initial race start was immediately red flagged following a collision on the start line, meaning the restart would be over a shortened distance of 11 laps. At the completion of lap one, Jorel was holding 11th place with Storm beginning his charge through the pack and already up to 17th position. At mid-distance Storm had continued his impressive surge up the order and would be up to 11th place with Jorel shadowing him in 12th. Both riders set about trying to improve their positions over the remaining laps but the gap was too great, and following a late incident ahead, Storm would inherit 10th place and Jorel 11th, just 0.425 seconds adrift of his young teammate at the chequered flag.
